IS-07: Barrier-free health assistance
The aim of the "Barrier-free Health Assistance" guidance project is to conduct research into the basis for a modular, intelligent assistance system that can offer specific support in the form of infrastructure in the environment of people living in the most varied of circumstances. The assistance system is embedded in a comprehensive and complex service structure and comprises the following functions:
- Data acquisition directly on the person's body
- Direct transmission of information to the person concerned
- If required, transmission of information to family, call center, emergency service, etc. as well as
- Initiation of situation-specific measures on the basis of the information obtained.
The starting point for research activities in the guidance project is the needs of the persons concerned, and not the technical potential. Accordingly, the use of technology in the innovation chain depends on the requirements of the respective target group (demand pull).
One essential aspect is consideration of the acceptance of the assistance system. An ethical assessment is also made, especially with respect to the innovative use of technology; the evaluation of use cases in terms of healthcare economics is a further significant aspect. If services are to be shaped with the customer in mind, the assistance system must be designed so that it meets the requirements of functional safety, operational safety, data security and fitness for everyday use.
A further special feature of the guidance project is that the research activities will create future-proof foundations for "Barrier-free Health Assistance" that will be of major importance to various stakeholders in social services and healthcare. This will be achieved by developing a basic, multi-use technology platform and by setting standards. In this context, health assistance means the targeted provision of differentiated business models, each representing a combination of helpful services and technologies.
